In no way shape or form is the Charlotte bowl and the Texas bowl a wash. The Charlotte Bowl has a payout of at least $1.1 million? The Texas has a payout of what $300-$500,000? The Charlotte Bowl has been very successful, so much in fact that the raised their minnimum payout. The Texas Bowl is a couple of years old with a different set of organisers than the original Houston Bowl, and a good thing too, since the Houston Bowl organisers could not even pay the participants in its last season.

RE: Big East gives up Texas Bowl
How can you guys as Cin fans be OK with BE giving Hous bowl away. You guys screamed bloody murder last yr going to Bir & playing SoMiss. If the BE had this bowl last yr, you would been in Hous playing 8 win Hous squad in NFL stadium on 12-28. Don't tell me how far Hous is, flying don't matter & driving would been have longer, but you had more time. you had 5 days to get home

As opposed to playing USM in the Papa Johns Bowl in Alabama. Besides Houston being a more popular destination, there is not a big difference between these bowls. Why are you so fixated on the BE dropping this bowl? Maybe I'm missing something, but it doesnt appear to be that big of a deal to me. And we dont know what the payout of the knew bowl in St Pete is yet.

RE: Big East gives up Texas Bowl
People screamed bloody murder because they thought UC should have gone to Charlotte over UConn. It was secondary that UC was playing Southern Mississippi, and in fact the facilities were a MUCH bigger issue than the team UC played.
Whether you like it or not, driving distance is a big deal. Timing is as well, and the Pizza Bowl is attempting to move to December 29th. Add in a new stadium and the bowl just become a much better destination.
All in all, the Big East added another BCS conference to the bowl schedule, got rid of a bowl that was nowhere close to the geographical foot print of the conference, and added a vacation destination in Tampa. Seems like a great deal to me.

RE: Big East gives up Texas Bowl
The B-12 & houston Texans & NFL network want this bowl to grow, when payouts start to increase & move up in & the B-12 pecking order, BE tv markets complement this game & has the potential to grow into another Aloma bowl. Bir with new dome & SEC consitantly suppling a team can grow into GMAC type game. As ND starts to rebuild gradually to respectabbly, 6,7,8 wins over the next couple yrs, ND will start taking up bowl games from the BE. The BE needs 7 bowl games. Bir is perfect #7 untill dome gets built with C-USA, SB & SEC in there backyard in case BE cann't fill bowl game.

Let's wait and see what happens with the bowl changes after 2009 (when the current contract is up). I expect to see some changes in how things are done.

I said this on the MAC board but I think the practical limit for a conference is 3 less games than the total number of partner schools.
Here is how the BCS conferences are looking today.
Big East (6 bowls for 9)
PAC-10 (7 bowls for 10)
ACC (9 bowls for 12)
SEC (9 bowls for 12)
Big XII (8 bowls for 12)
Big Ten (7 bowls for 11)
I think the Big East is good at 6 and if it has a 7th team with a 6-6 record like it did the last couple of years it will get at-large placement preference over the non-BCS conferences. The WAC, MAC, and SBC are going to be the last ones out everytime.

Wasn't there a rumor a while back that if Louisville expanded their stadium, the PJ bowl might try to relocate there?

Blazer fans should be over kissing your butts. This is the only way Blazer will get a new stadium. With this bowl going to the sec, will help secure them a new one. I dont think there will be no dome(too expensive and SEC are not going for that. It would give UAB an advantage over alabama and auburn in recruiting. The state government is not going for that. This is something you guys need to think about. UAB is definitely the biggest winner in all of this.

You would have thought that the Big East had given up the Sugar Bowl the way you're crying and complaining on all these message boards. Here is the Big East's Bowl lineup opponents:
1.)BCS
2.)Big 12, Pac-10 or ACC
3.)ACC
4.)SEC
5.)C-USA
6.)MAC
That's the bowl lineup. I don't know where in the world you got a 6-6 team in the #3 spot and Louisiana Monroe in the 5th spot.

The Big East played in the Texas Bowl ONE TIME. Who gives a crap, you can enjoy the C-USA, Big 12 matchup.

And if we had the current bowl lineup we would have been playing South Carolina or Alabama. And their fans would have traveled to see their team play a Top 20 BCS team in a nearby bowl game.

BCS: BE #1
Gator/Sun: BE #2 vs. ACC #3 or Pac-10 #3
Meineke: BE #3 vs. ACC #5
International: BE #4 vs. MAC #3
PapaJohns: BE #5/6 vs. SEC #9
St. Petersburg: BE #5/6 vs. CUSA #6
Of course, the picks don't always go by pure standings. Some can leapfrog others if the bowl wants a better draw or avoid a rematch. There's also Notre Dame but unlikely.

I fail to see why a temple fan is so hung up on this minor bowl. I would think he would care more about the congressional bowl instead.

If The BEast is as strong as I think it's going to be, all of those bowl games, except for the BCS game( ¿s?), should be pretty much automatic into the win column. The only things that could prevent that is injuries, stupidity, and/or poor coaching. The BEast is going to be BEastly this year.
And if WVU plays the way they did in the Fiesta Bowl, that BCS Champioship's in the bag too, and may not be the only BCS bid either.
